Story
DOCUMENTARY Population planning and the consequences: a disturbing journey into the Chinese past and present. China’s so-called »one child policy« has officially been relaxed, but the effects are still part of present-day Chinese reality. Director Wang Nanfu – herself a young mother – sets out on a journey into her own past and origins. She collects stories of forced sterilisation and abandoned children, state child removal and the traumas such experiences bring with them. In her film we hear from both victims and those responsible for carrying out these officially sanctioned »bio-policies« and it becomes clear that consequences for the ratio of the sexes in Chinese society are still widely felt today.
