Story

Two friends in Tel Aviv. One is an ageing hippy warden on Metzitzim Beach, who steadfastly refuses to grow up and spends most of his time chasing peeping Toms away from the shower rooms – whilst himself liking nothing more than to secretly watch his mates enjoy their romantic interludes in the beach huts. The other, played by Arik Einstein, one of the most influential and popular musicians in Israel, is a guitarist who dreams of opening a night club. Director Uri Zohar plays the beach warden and with Metzitzim created a cult film and the mother of all Israeli comedies.

Director

Uri Zohar (*1935) was one of Israel's leading directors in the 1970s and had the reputation of being an enfant terrible. Later, he became an ultra-orthodox Jew and as a rabbi in 2013 laid his friend Arik Einstein to rest. Metzitzim was shown at the 1973 Berlinale.
