Story

Once celebrated, then threatened: biopic of a courageous woman. Berlin 1943 – 85-year old Martha Liebermann (Thekla Carola Wied) stands before the most difficult decision of her life: Should the Jewish widow of painter Max Liebermann (Rüdiger Vogler) continue to hope for an exit permit from the Nazi authorities or flee to Switzerland with the help of Hanna Solf (Fritzi Haberlandt) and her resistance group? Martha decides on the latter to avoid deportation to a concentration camp. But the plan fails. Martha takes a brave decision. An impressive drama about Liebermann’s widow, whom neither her age, nor money, nor her husband’s international fame could protect from persecution.
