Hanna flees the Iranian provinces to Teheran with her friend Murry. On the way, the teenagers meet a group of buskers called Malaria, with whom they then disappear into the feverish metropolis. But Hanna and Murry are not only in danger from the big city dragging them ever deeper – Hanna’s violent father and his sons have set off to bring the pair back. Malaria is a pulsating portrait of two young people on the streets of Teheran and catches the vibe of the Iranian capital with documentary immediacy.
With his films Traveler from the South (1996) and Deep Breath (FILMFEST HAMBURG 2003) PARVIZ SHAHBAZI (*1962) won numerous awards.
