Story

Therese, the wife of the mayor of a Lebanese village, can’t wait to meet her daughter’s future husband and his parents. She excitedly discusses the news with her brother, who died 20 years earlier in a Syrian bomb attack, but who for her is still as alive today as ever. Finally, the guests arrive – and Therese learns that the boyfriend and his family come from Syria. Now the engagement will only take place over Therese’s dead body! A very dark comedy that plays with the traditional animosity between Syrians and Lebanese and leaves no prejudice unturned.

Director

SOPHIE BOUTROS (*1974) studied film at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in Beirut and has made numerous music videos. She is currently working at the American University in Dubai. Solitaire is her debut feature.
