Story
What begins as a classic whodunnit, slowly turns into an intelligent reflection on the conflict of differing points of view When the migrant worker Xu returns to his home province, he learns that his 14-year old daughter Ying is pregnant. The father is allegedly a teacher. But neither the police enquiries nor Xu’s own furious efforts nor the investigation by a reporter from the city lead to a single truth. The deeper they get into the story, the more indistinct correlations become, as an apparently unambiguous overall picture disintegrates. The film itself rejects unambiguousness and performs a confusing game of changing perspectives on the part of the protagonists, both of the world and of each other.
