After losing her husband, a mute mother has to look after her two sons by herself. The elder of the two sees a chance of getting a job in the local chromium mines and thus filling the vacant role of the head of the family. The problem is, he‘s only 15. When the mother and a neighbour grow closer, a new father figure threatens to emerge, which provokes the pubescent boy‘s rebellious spirit. The only silver lining is his unconventional, not unattractive maths teacher.
