Story
DOCUMENTARY Googoosh is a singer and an icon of Iranian popular culture. The film tells her moving story, through which she became a voice of resistance and a symbol of hope for many Iranians. She had her first performance aged two and later Googoosh was known from Tehran’s famous Cabaret Miami all the way to the Royal Palace. An international career followed, with performances all over the world and hits in 15 languages. She was the role model for a whole generation. Her fans cut their hair short like hers, and copied her extravagant style of dress. With the Islamic Revolution, things changed overnight: a ban on concerts, prison and house arrest. After 21 years of isolation, she was finally able to leave the country and enjoyed an unexpected comeback in exile.
