Ghost Tropic

Story

A woman falls asleep in the subway and sets out on a nocturnal odyssey through the melting pot of Brussels. A minimalistic night walk full of humanity and magical moments. After a long evening’s cleaning, Khadija wakes up at the other end of the city. The subway has closed down for the night. Phoning her grown-up son proves fruitless and the cash machine won’t give her the money for a taxi. The woman in her mid-fifties has no choice but to set off on a walk that will take her several hours to get home. During her trek through the city’s different social zones she encounters other creatures of the night, who can offer help – or are themselves in need.

Director

BAS DEVOS (*1983) won the international jury prize in der Generation 14plus at the Berlinale for his debut feature Violet (2013). Besides Ghost Tropic, which was shown at Cannes in the Quinzaine, his episodic drama Hellhole also appeared in 2019.
