“Six out of ten Ecuadorians live in extreme poverty,” says director Victor Manuel Arregui. The rich hide themselves away behind walls in “ciudadelas”, where beggars and day labourers are not tolerated. Ten per cent of the country’s population have emigrated in the past ten years. Juan, Arregui’s young hero, would love to leave the country, but first he needs the money to do so. He is prepared to go to any lengths to get it…
