Story
Hybrid A hut becomes a stage for reflection on remembering and banishment, homeland and placelessness. Rithy Panh enters his own past via this theatrical setting, returning to his life as a young man under the Red Khmer regime. Filmic fragments of memory escape through the cracks in the hut walls, enriched with quotations from Robespierre, Mao, Apollinaire and the director himself. They ask about the nature of revolution, which with its fantasies of purity attracted disciples in both East and West. Together with breath-taking tableaux which alternate with the claustrophobia of the hut’s four walls, a filmic poem is created consisting of pictures of the past, the colours of today and the sounds of memory.
