Story
Essay In the middle of the 20th century, the composer John Cage was a central figure of the New York avant-garde. HIs pieces were free of conventional structures and instrumentation and closely connected to philosophical and social reflection. Asked how he would describe them in a single sentence, Cage said once: “Get out of whatever cage you’re in.” Together with the young pianist Francesco Tristano, the director sets out to find traces of Cage’s music and philosophy in New York. The expedition becomes an experiment in which sounds and thoughts enter into a dialogue together. Everybody’s Cage is a documentary essay, as open and associative as a composition by John Cage.
