Story
Documentary Eight short documentaries and film essays on the subject of work. Some treat the topic literally, others poetically, still others examine it in philosophical, sociological and historical terms. A projectionist puts a roll of 70mm film in an analogue projector. Workers travel to work in the early morning by tube. Nights desks, cinema box offices and porter’s lodges become aquaria of work. We look back at the Communist uprising of 1923 in Hamburg and Adorno’s concept of the “verwalteten Welt” or “managed world”, then return to the present and the question: is there still a threshold between work space and private space? The films were made in the context of the seminar Compilation film/Work at the School of Visual Arts in Hamburg, which was led by Prof. Pepe Danquart and Bernd Schoch.
