Story

Documentary According to the Olympic motto, it’s all about taking part. But before an athlete can be picked, there is the hurdle of the Olympic norm to overcome. Nine top sportsmen and women from Hamburg face the task of realizing their dream of Olympic participation, including swimmer Jacob Heidtmannt, long jumper Sebastian Bayer and rower Tim Ole Naske. The film accompanies the athletes over the course of a year to competitions and training sessions, witnessing uplifting successes and devastating setbacks. The athletes’ private environments also play a regular part, with parents and friends who support the aspiring Olympians and even tailor their entire lives to this end. Die Norm is a unique, emotional look behind the scenes of top-level sports – with tears of disappointment for some and tears of triumph for others.
