Story

Trashy, with a great cast and a soundtrack from the young Jean-Michel Jarre: this cultish Utopian end-times drama has been comprehensively restored to mark the 40th anniversary of its original release. A dangerous epidemic breaks out in Hamburg. Those infected go crazy and die. The authorities react in panic and impose senseless emergency measures. In a quaratine camp, a doctor (Helmut Griem), a young woman (Carline Seiser), a sausage seller (Ulrich Wildgruber) and an anarchistic wheelchair user (Fernando Arrabal) get to know each other. Together, they manage to escape. The group is intending to head South, but their journey becomes a chaotic odyssey through Germany.

Director

PETER FLEISCHMANN (*1937) made his first feature film in 1969, adapting the stage play »Hunting Scenes from Bavaria«. In the same year he founded the production company Hallelujah Film with Volker Schlöndorff. In 2008, he published the novel »Die Zukunftsangst der Deutschen« [The German Fear of the Future].
