DOCUMENTARY Thomas Haemmerli is Swiss and the son of a lawyer has had a chequered career: the army, squatter, student of law and philosophy, yuppie, ad man, TV correspondent and expat in South America. He has lived in a posh town house in Zürich, squats, flatshares, chic lofts, Paris attic apartments, Latin American Airbnb rooms and high-rise estates. Along the way, Haemmerli has developed a highly entertaining autobiographical film essay on the use of space, living situations, architecture, town planning and gentrification in the world’s big cities.
THOMAS HAEMMERLI (*1964) worked in ad agencies and for Swiss TV. Seven Dumpsters and a Corpse was shown at FILMFEST HAMBURG in 2007. I Am Gentrification: Confessions of a Scoundrel is his seventh film.
