Story
Part one of a major two-parter about the fight for survival of a hotel dynasty between the wars. Heir to a luxury hotel, son of a wealthy family – the young Emil Dreesen appears to be facing a glittering future. Instead, he returns traumatized from the First World War and faces the greatest challenge of his life. The hotel has been requisitioned by the French Army and everyday life is a matter of economic hardship and radical politics: a mirror of the social chaos of Germany in the 1920s and 30s, a dangerous time to be alive.
