Story

Much to the horror of the main office in London, the Rylstone Women’s Institute in North Yorkshire is planning a very special fund-raising exercise for the local hospital in memory of Annie’s (Julie Walters) late husband: her friend Chris (Helen Mirren) has come up with the idea of having the local branch members photographed for a pin-up calendar – elderly women baking, making juice, playing the piano, doing household chores. And all of them starkers! Based on a true story, director Nigel Cole’s new film is the latest in a fine tradition of British comedies.
