Story

ANIMATION Bollywood in 24 paintings per second: love, suffering and music in a whirl of colours Salim sees flower girl Kamala on the streets of Bombay – and he falls head over heels in love. He wants to win her heart with a smile, a little dance and a flower, just like in his beloved Bollywood films. But real life isn’t a movie and thus Bombay Rose isn’t a fairy tale about love, but about hardships, obstacles and impossibilities. Every frame is hand-painted and the result is an artistic love letter to Bombay and Bollywood in every shot.

Director

GITANJALI RAO (*1972) is an artist, animator, actress and director. After three animated shorts, Bombay Rose is her debut feature and opened the Critics‘ Week in Venice.
