Story
DOCUMENTARY Billie Holiday was one of the great voices of jazz. Billie presents hitherto unpublished recordings and shows the singer for the first time in colour. Billie Holiday’s voice was like a musical instrument and she used it decades before #blacklivesmatter to draw attention to the abuse of black Americans with her song »Strange Fruit«. An assertive woman, who was more than a tragic victim of drugs, men, her skin colour or the society in which she grew up. We see »Lady Day« for the first time in colour and hear the voices of contemporaries like Count Basie, Sarah Vaughn and Charles Mingus, who try to bring light in the darkness that surrounds Billie’s personality and her tragic end.
