Story

Documentary Billions of people all over the world live in high-rise estates and slums. In the public perception, these are associated with appalling living conditions, high crime rates and a lack of clean drinking water. But could slums not be a problem for overpopulated cities, but in fact a solution? The film visits informal settlements in India, Morocco, France, New Jersey and Québec and shows the adaptability and ingenuity of people who build their makeshift accommodation according to their needs. What was hitherto seen as inhuman acquires a new perspective: precarious provisional housing as an example for a community based on cooperation and social mobility.

Director

Jean-Nicolas Orhon studied film and anthropology and works as a screenplay author and director. His work includes Les nuits de la poésie (2012), a documentary about poets in Québec from 1970 to the present.
