Story

A calmly tender, loosely episodic echo of Icelandic society by Rúnar Rúnarsson. It’s just before Christmas. There’s a special atmosphere everywhere which reflects the emotional state of the nation. A deserted farm burns down, in a school a children‘s choir sings Christmas carols, in a museum a mother quarrels with her ex on the phone and a little girl lets her granny try out her new VR headset. Pictures of quiet contemplation overlap: the banal and the sublime, beauty and sadness, life and death, forming a bitter-sweet mirror of Icelandic reality.

Director

RÚNAR RÚNARSSON (*1977) started out in 1995 as a director and screenplay writer and was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for his short The Last Farm. After Volcano (2011) and Sparrows (2015) Echo is his third feature film.
