Story
From shadowy sex clubs full of unfulfilled dreams to luxury apartments owned by Russian billionaires: Sean Baker’s new film is a wild trip through the contradictions of today which won the Golden Palm in Cannes. Anora, a young stripper from Brooklyn, gets to know Ivan, son of a Russian oligarch. The two begin a wild affair. Because he wants to avoid his impending deportation and she sees a chance of escaping her demi-monde, the pair spontaneously get married in Las Vegas. When the news gets back to Russia, however, their dream of a better future is sorely jeopardized, as Ivan’s parents travel to New York to get the marriage annulled. But Anora isn’t prepared to give up that easily.
