Shadow Behind the Moon

OT: Anino sa Likod ng Buwan

Jun Robles Lana // Philippines, 2015
Fiction Feature // FF2015

A hut in the jungle on a hot night in 1993: on the Philippines, the war between Communist rebels and government troops has been going on for more than 20 years. The couple who live in the hut had to flee rebel-held territory several years ago. Since then, they have become friendly with a government soldier, who as so often is visiting tonight for a game of cards and a few beers. Yet this evening everything is different, and not just because of the approaching lunar eclipse. A dense, labyrinthine game begins involving politics and friendship, love and lust, trust and betrayal, stunningly staged in real time in a single sequence by Jun Robles Lana.

Jun Robles Lana (*1972) is one of the Philippines' best-known playwrights and screenplay writers and the youngest author ever to be inducted into the Philippines' Literary Hall of Fame. Since 2006, he has increasingly directed his own screenplays and his film Bwakaw was the official Philippines Oscar® entry in 2013.
