Story
When Elie, Gerard and Isabelle talk about Egypt, their eyes light up. The country was their home – until 1956, when the Suez crisis forced Egyptian Jews into exile. Overnight, their fellow Egyptians became enemies. With contemporary witnesses and archive footage, the film recalls the peaceful cultural coexistence of the first half of the 20th century. Back then, Jewish influences in the art world and business were strong – today, resentment is so ingrained that the film was only released for showing by the Egyptian censors under the Muslim Brotherhood after a delay.
