Charkiw, Ukraine, 1927. On Stalin’s orders, a cooperative house is built in which the most important Ukrainian writers are to participate in an experiment. It aims to create a new kind of Soviet writer and achieve total control of the creative process. But when a young, unknown writer turns up, strange things start to happen in the house. The film is based on real events.
