How do we achieve equal opportunities for women in film and television? WIFT - Hamburg invites to panel discussion hosted by Katja Eichinger

Women are extremely under-represented on German television and in German film productions. Numerous studies have demonstrated this. According to the most recent study of the German Cultural Council, the financial disadvantage of women in culture and media appears in a serious salary distance of about 24% between women and men in the social insurance for artists. Furthermore, in front of the camera women are mostly shown in conjunction with relationship, says the study published by the University of Rostock on July in Berlin, supported by Maria Furtwängler in cooperation with ARD, ZDF, RTL and ProSiebenSat.1.

Which strategies are already at hand in our country and on which condition of development is gender equality internationally? How does the Swedish concept »50/50 by 20/20« exactly work? What is the role of politics and which opportunities do state funding institutions have to help to create a better balance?

Panelists: Maria Köpf (CEO Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein), Jana Schiedek (State Councillor for culture and media, City of Hamburg), Anna Serner (CEO Swedish Film Institute) and Monique Simard (CEO Sodec, Canada).

Presenting: Katja Eichinger (German writer, photographer, filmmaker).
